Work Mixers

For someone who has been writing an essay a week for the past 11 years, it’s been insanely long since I posted something here.

2 months to be exact.

To the date.

*******

I blame work.

Oh, and running a wee bit low on things worth public pondering.

But mostly I blame work.

So, to brush off the icky cobwebs … let me recap …

*******

During my time away, I found on Zillow this oversized barn house to live post fire … only to discover after the fact that the place bleeds politically red.

Note to self: Besides the obvious, never rent a place site unseen if for no other reason than to gauge the narrative of the neighbourhood.

In August I returned to England for about 35 days to hang with friends and, per usual, took my work with me, and designed and produced a wicked work analytical heat map tool.

Still in England, I was informed that a tree branch at that barn house speared a 3 inch hole through my Jeep’s soft top roof. Duct tape continues to be the hero in this story.

Inhale. Exhale.

For the past two months, I’ve been asleep by 8pm. Awake by 3am. At work by 6am. It’s not a sexy schedule but the stuff I’m producing has me professionally and cerebrally hooked.

On the personal front, after a ten year hiatus I am now a television watcher again … fueled by the gaps hours from the previous sentence.

And for my twenty year work anniversary in September, my company gave me a selection of my choice from a variety of golf clubs, televisions, rings, portable monitor screens, a compost miniature greenhouse, and cookware.

*******

At first daunting, choosing my gift ended up being a no brainer (reselling was never an option in my playbook).

  • I don’t golf. I watch golf, but I don’t play.
  • I just discovered a use for the TV I have. WTF am I supposed to do with another one?
  • Really? Jewelry?
  • Pass on the compost house for every reason we all are thinking about.
  • The last thing I need is a 3rd screen to do more work. Yeah, you heard me.

So, I picked the Cuisinart mixer that looks exactly like the one my Mum had. I’ve never baked homemade rosemary soda bread like she did … but I decided I could learn. And, if all else fails, it can second as a really large paper weight.

*******

Okay! I think I’ve made a a solid case for my absence … and have fixed the glitch.

This morning puts this blog up-to-date and me about half an hour away from firing up the ‘ole coffee cup and powering up the VPN.

Yeah, yeah … I know, right? But it’s working for me.

Happy Saturday.
